Learn Salesforce Einstein Basics

Everybody’s Talking About Salesforce Einstein

So you’ve heard some buzz about Salesforce Einstein, and you’re intrigued. But what is it, exactly?
Salesforce Einstein is artificial intelligence (AI) for CRM.
Because you look like the naturally intelligent type, we’re guessing you already know a fair amount about AI from earning the Artificial Intelligence Basics badge. But before we go into more detail about Salesforce Einstein, here’s a quick recap of what we covered in that module.
  • AI makes our lives easier with personalized recommendations, intelligent search results, and automated assistants (but not killer robots)
  • AI is at an evolutionary tipping point with the convergence of data, computing power, and algorithms
  • AI is embedded in the applications that we already use in our consumer lives and is surfaced inherently through the UI experience
In the context of Salesforce, that last bullet point is key. You can think of Salesforce Einstein in much the same way. Just like with consumer apps, we’re infusing AI into all our Salesforce applications to make customer interactions smarter. This means that with Salesforce Einstein, every key feature of the Salesforce platform—from workflow, to Process Builder, to analytics—will embed AI seamlessly. All Salesforce users, not just data scientists, can surface predictions directly in the context of their business.
Salesforce Einstein—AI for CRM—is embedded in the Salesforce applications that you and your users already use. That means you can bring AI to everyone.

It’s Easy. No, Really.
You don’t have to turn on Salesforce Einstein. You actually don’t have to do anything. It’s already embedded right there, making every customer interaction smarter.
With as little friction as possible, Salesforce Einstein discovers your company’s most important business insights, predicts what will happen next, recommends the best action to take, and ultimately automates certain tasks to free up your users’ time.

Hey, So What’s This Salesforce Einstein I Keep Hearing About?

Let’s be real: Your company is going to have questions about Salesforce Einstein, and they’re going to come to you for answers. Not only is Salesforce Einstein a big deal, it’s also a big change. Whenever the tools that your users work with every day change (hello, three-times-a-year Salesforce releases), you need to be ready to help them understand how these changes affect them. Consider this module your cheat sheet to all things Salesforce Einstein.
Here are some of the questions your users might ask, and what you can say when they do.

Is This Really Going to Affect Me?

If you use, administer, or develop for any Salesforce product, yes.
Every Salesforce cloud is getting smarter. Powered by advanced machine learning, deep learning, predictive analytics, natural language processing, and smart data discovery, every one of your company’s customer processes, workflows, and interactions will instantly become smarter and more predictive with Salesforce Einstein.

Here’s how each cloud will empower Salesforce users.

This Sounds Complicated. Do We Need to Hire a Data Scientist?

No, Salesforce Einstein is your data scientist.
If you were trying to develop all this functionality from scratch, the answer would probably be yes. AI is beyond the reach of most companies because the technical expertise, infrastructure, and other resources required to develop these solutions are so complex.
Until now, companies had to:
  • Bring together massive and diverse data sets, often requiring data science expertise to wrangle and prepare data the right way for AI
  • Build specific predictive models to extract value from these large data sets that are continuously learning
  • Invest heavily in infrastructure and DevOps support to maintain models and keep processes up and running
  • Bring results from the models to users within the context of their business, via complex integrations
Because Salesforce Einstein naturally integrates AI into your users’ existing workflows, your company doesn’t need to worry about any of this complexity. It doesn’t have to hire AI experts or data science teams. Salesforce Einstein captures, learns from, and connects data to give your users predictive insights and recommend next steps in the Salesforce applications they already use. Salesforce Einstein is in fact a personal data scientist for your users.

How Does This Actually Work?

Maybe none of your users will ask you for technical details. But if they do, you’ll be ready. Just remember the C-L-C of data: Capture, Learn, and Connect.

Capture Data

  • AI projects have to have a data source with a lot of data—so much data we call it a data lake.
  • Salesforce is a veritable land o’ lakes: we’ve got lots of data.
  • Salesforce Einstein uses this data to build models that provide customers with predictions, recommendations, and automated processes.

Learn from Data

  • Consumer companies like Facebook or Amazon have one app that all their customers use, so they only need one data schema. Salesforce Einstein, on the other hand, generates hundreds of thousands of models by applying machine learning at the individual customer data level.
  • Your Salesforce org is unique. You’ve probably created custom objects, fields, and workflows specific to your company’s business. Salesforce Einstein is smart enough to handle your org’s customizations—and the customizations of every other Salesforce org, because we are metadata driven.
  • Your users bring their expertise to frame business questions, and Salesforce Einstein builds the best machine learning model to find answers. It’s smart like that.

Connect with Customers

  • With the help of machine learning, including deep learning and natural language processing, your users can deliver better experiences to your company’s customers.
  • Salesforce Einstein is built from these previously mentioned technologies. It’s embedded in Salesforce features, and it runs in the background, accessing new data inputs, building insights and predictions, and displaying the most important discoveries to your users.
  • None of this learning is an add-on that requires developer work. It’s a core part of the Salesforce product.

Do I Have to Be a Genius to Use This? I’m Pretty Sure Einstein Was a Genius.

True, Einstein was smart, but don’t underestimate how smart you are, too. Besides, Salesforce Einstein is easy to use. We designed it around four principles that help you get the most out of your company’s data.
  • Discover: Insights that bring new clarity about your company’s customers
  • Predict: Outcomes so your users can make decisions with confidence
  • Recommend: The best actions to make the most out of every engagement
  • Automate: Streamlined tasks that let your users focus on customer success
